The Scouts were set a challenge courtesy of Hannah and Shere Khan.

In patrols they had to cook a main meal and desert using a single burner gas stove.Taste test their meal, sharing amongst them and clean up afterwards. Wash and dry up and tidy everything away for Flag down.

They chose from set rations and made up their own meal, no recipes or handy hints given, chhose the ingredients to try and make a meal from and if it's inedible whoops!!

Rations available were 1 only per patrol of the following: Nest of egg noodles, tin of tuna, handful of carrots, packet of Smash, handful of peas, tinned tomatoes, hunk of cheese, tinned meatballs, banana, tinned peaches, tinned custard.

Patrol Leaders came to the rations store (Shere Khan guarding a table!) to get briefed, look at the rations available then back to their patrols to discuss, come up with meal ideas and get started on the main meal.

The idea behind this was to get them used to thinking for themselves and learn how to make a meal without a recipe and from limited rations, perhaps what they may expect to do on an expedition. They were given minimal guidance except of course if it was concerning safety, otherwise they were encouraged to figure things out amongst themselves.

The patrols ended up making the same main course, all three of them opted for noodles, tinned tomatoes, meatballs, peas and carrots with cheese on top. Eaxh patrol worked independently from the other patrols so it was interesting to see them all go for the exact same items to make the main meal.
